Review Guidelines

How reviews work on FishTripFinder, what we publish and what we remove.

Last updated

Reviews only help if they’re real. These guidelines explain who can review, what we publish, and when we remove a review. They’re part of our Terms of Use.

Who can write a review

  • Anyone who has been on a trip with the charter. You don’t need to have booked through FishTripFinder.
  • One review per person per charter. You can edit your own review later — for example after a second trip.
  • Reviews without an account are published after you confirm by clicking the link we email you. Disposable email addresses aren’t accepted.
  • Captains, crew, owners, their family and staff can’t review their own business — or a competitor.

What makes a good review

  • Describe your own experience: the trip, the captain and crew, the boat, the fishing and the value.
  • Be specific and fair. Helpful details: time of year, trip length, what you caught, what you’d tell a friend.
  • Photos from your trip are welcome (up to 5). Only upload photos you took or have permission to use, and avoid clear close-ups of other people’s faces without their permission.

What we don’t allow

  • Fake reviews, reviews from someone who didn’t take the trip, or several reviews from one person.
  • Reviews written in exchange for money, discounts, free trips or other rewards — or to get a refund or favour.
  • Threats, harassment, hate speech, profanity aimed at people, or sexually explicit content.
  • Personal information, such as phone numbers, addresses or the full names of crew who aren’t public figures.
  • Advertising, links, or content unrelated to the trip.
  • Claims of illegal activity — report those to the relevant authorities instead.

How we moderate

We use automatic checks (for example the same device or IP as the listing owner, many reviews at once, or a brand-new account) and may hold a review for a person to check before it’s published. We remove reviews that break these guidelines. We never remove or hide a genuine review because it’s negative, and captains can’t edit or delete reviews — they can only reply publicly.

For captains

  • You can invite your customers to review you with the review link in your account — invite all of them, not just the happy ones.
  • Don’t offer anything in return for a review, and don’t ask for a review to be changed or removed.
  • Reply politely and professionally. Replies are public and also follow these guidelines.

Reporting a review

Use the “Report” link on any review and tell us what’s wrong. We review every report. If you’re the captain and think a review is about a different business or a trip that never happened, report it and give us the details. You can also email [email protected].

Ratings

A charter’s rating is the average of all published reviews on FishTripFinder. Ratings from booking platforms, when shown, are labelled with their source and are not mixed into our rating.
